About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced UKCP accredited transpersonal Integrative counsellor and psychotherapist.
People come to therapy for many different reasons. You may be in crisis, or going through a major life transition such as divorce, bereavement, moving into adulthood, menopause or middle age. You may be struggling with anxiety, depression, the long-term effects of childhood experiences or relationship difficulties. You may be finding that you can no longer ignore the urge to find meaning and purpose in your life or you may simply recognise that your old ways of coping with life are no longer working and it is time to try something new.
Whatever has brought you to therapy, I recognise the courage it takes to seek help and aim to provide a warm, safe and non-judgemental space in which you can speak openly.
I believe that lasting change comes from understanding ourselves on a deeper level rather than simply trying to get rid of symptoms. Therapy works best as a collaborative process, exploring not only the current events in your life but going deeper to understand the often unconscious meanings, patterns and beliefs that lie beneath the surface. My role is not to tell you what to do, but to help you to understand yourself more fully and find your own way forward with greater clarity, confidence and self-awareness.
My qualifications include a Master's degree in Transpersonal Integrative Psychotherapy and a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (CCPE), London, together with a BA (Hons) in Psychology from University of Galway. I have also completed further training in Couples Therapy, Clinical Supervision, CBT, Internal Family Systems Therapy and neurodiversity.
Practice description
My approach is integrative, which means I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, including psychodynamic, CBT and Parts Therapy (IFS), tailoring the therapy to the individual. While talking therapy is at the heart of my work, words are not always enough. Where it feels right for the client, we may also work with dreams, body awareness, creative expression, sand-tray, meditation or guided visualisation. These approaches can help us connect with parts of ourselves that are not always easy to reach through talking alone. There is never any expectation to work in these ways. Together we discover what feels most helpful for you.
I welcome people from all backgrounds, cultures, genders, identities and ways of experiencing the world and have a particular interest in working with neurodivergent clients, including those with ADHD and autism. Many people reach adulthood holding the belief that they don’t quite fit in, that they are somehow 'too much' or 'not enough'. Together we can explore both the challenges and the strengths that come with perceiving and experiencing the world differently. My approach is never one-size-fits-all. Instead, it is always guided by your unique qualities and life experiences. While many people begin therapy because they want relief from anxiety, depression or relationship difficulties, they often discover something deeper. As we begin to understand and appreciate ourselves, the struggles that first brought us to therapy can become the starting point for lasting change.
Alongside individual therapy, I work with couples who wish to improve communication, rebuild trust, recover after betrayal or better understand the underlying relationship patterns that keep them feeling disconnected. Rather than deciding who is right or wrong, couples therapy helps each partner understand both themselves and one another more deeply, to identify strengths in the relationship, and find healthier ways of managing conflict.
My first session
Beginning therapy can feel like a big step, so I offer a free, no obligation, 20-minute introductory consultation by phone or on Zoom. This gives us an opportunity to discuss what has brought you to therapy, what you hope to gain from it, and whether we feel we are the right fit to work together.
If we decide to work together, your first 50-minute session allows us to discuss your current situation in more depth. There is no pressure to tell your whole story in the first session. We will move at a pace that feels right for you. At the end of the session we will review any practical details, and if you wish to continue, agree a day and time for ongoing weekly sessions.
